Nothing makes your skin feel quite as refreshed and rejuvenated as a professional spa facial. Unfortunately most of us don’t have the time or money to receive this treatment on a regular basis. Not to worry though – even the busiest women-on-the-go can give themselves a quick facial at home in around 15-20 minutes. Here’s the DERMAdoctor recipe for a professional at-home facial:

STEP 1:  CLEANSE

Wet the face and neck with a hot towel or warm water and gently cleanse the skin to remove dirt, oil and makeup. DERMAdoctor offers a variety of cleansers uniquely suited to your specific skin type. Wrinkle Revenge 1 antioxidant enhanced glycolic acid facial cleanser is a soap free, oil free, pH balanced buffered 12 percent glycolic acid cleanser  enriched by free radical fighting antioxidants. It gently and effectively exfoliates cellular build-up and residue caused by pollution, make-up and excessive surface oils, leaving skin clean and radiant. Depending on your skin type, you can choose to “bump up” the age-fighting properties of the glycolic acid with Wrinkle Revenge 2 cleanser (containing 12 percent glycolic acid) or Wrinkle Revenge 3 cleanser (with 15 percent).

If your skin is extra-sensitive, try DERMAdoctor Born to be Mild medicated face and body cleanser, a therapeutic soap-free cleanser containing two percent pyrithione zinc to control skin itching, irritation, redness and flaking.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE

Gently exfoliating your skin (recommended every 3-4 days) helps to slough off dead skin cells and give your complexion an overall healthier appearance. Combine gentle but effective exfoliation with the benefits of a chemical peel with DERMAdoctor Physical Chemistry microdermabrasion and peel. A potent multiacid resurfacing chemical peel is combined with nonabrasive polymer microdermabrasion particles to give unparalleled radiance to dull, dry skin while minimizing the appearance of fine lines, sun damage and skin discoloration.

STEP 3: MASK

Masks are a great way to give the skin that little something “extra,” nourishing it with added vitamins and minerals. B. Kamins Diatomamus Earth Masque for oily or combination skin is a blend of unique moisturizers, botanical extracts and vitamins to enrich the skin, leaving it feeling firmer and visibly luminous. It contains natural minerals including magnesium, iron, calcium and sodium that help retain moisture while absorbing excess oils. If your skin is dry, try Kinerase Pro+ Therapy Ultra Hydrating Repair Mask, an advanced treatment mask designed to help improve skin hydration. For sensitive or irritated skin, try Neova Gentle Purifying Mask. A blend of botanical oils moisturizes while cleansing impurities and two forms of licorice are combined with green tea to calm irritated, sensitive skin.

STEP 4: TONER

After removing your mask, apply a toner or tonic to balance the skin and improve clarity. If your skin is dry, look for toners that do not contain alcohol. Murad Essential-C Toner balances environmentally stressed and dehydrated skin. This patented formula contains orange and coneflower extracts to gently condition. L’Occitane Purifying Rice Toner is a fresh bi-phase toner for combination and oily skin that provides a perfect matte finish.

Tip: Apply toner using a square cotton pad instead of cotton balls, which absorb more than you need, wasting excess product.

STEP 5: REPAIR & AGE-PREVENTION

After using toner, if you choose, you can apply any appropriate repair or anti-aging serums. Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Serum contains antioxidant-rich pomegranate to fight skin-damaging free radicals, as well as borage and evening primrose oils, which help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by strengthening skin’s moisture barrier. MD Formulations Vit-A-Plus Intensive Anti-Aging Serum is an intensive treatment that helps dramatically reduce the appearance of deeper lines and wrinkles while improving firmness and overall skin texture.

Don’t forget the eyes! Dr. Brandt Time Arrest Eye Serum will smooth crow’s feet and tighten skin around the eye area while improving the structure and density of the delicate eye tissue to provide a more “lifted” appearance.

STEP 6: MOISTURIZE

The final and most important step in a facial or any daily skin-care regimen is applying a good moisturizer to “set” and protect the face and seal in all benefits of the previous products. The selection of moisturizers is never ending – just choose one that fits your skin type and provides the specific benefits you are looking for (anti-aging, UV protection, calming, etc.) DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge rescue & protect facial cream is a great daily moisturizer for all skin types to combat signs of aging, smooth skin and restore youthful radiance. If you suffer from rosacea, acne or general skin redness, try DERMAdoctor Calm Cool & Corrected anti-redness tranquility cream. It improves the appearance of redness, rejuvenates skin and protects from damaging free radicals, while reducing the production of acne forming DHT. For sun-damaged skin, try Kinerase PhotoFacials Day Moisturizer with SPF 50, formulated to prevent and correct incidental sun damage.

Follow up with fresh makeup and you’re on your way to a flawless face in half the time and at half the cost of a spa facial. Try to give your skin the full treatment once a week, but make sure you at least clean, protect and moisturize daily to keep your skin youthful and blemish-free.
