We have all (or most of us) experienced how dry skin can become in the winter, and unfortunately summertime can be just as dehydrating. This is especially true when cities are hit by heatwaves such as the one that has been lingering around the midwest over the past several weeks, delivering temperatures in the hundreds. When the air is dry and desert-like it can leave skin tight, itchy and flaky, none of which are flattering ways for skin to be/feel.
Luckily there are several ways to keep skin from being overly parched. A very common mistake people make in the summer is spending far to much time in the water, be it your pool or your shower. Prolonged exposure to chemicals in home and public pools can be extremely drying and the same goes for super hot showers. By limiting your pool time and taking warm (the cooler the better but it does not have to be cold) showers you can help retain skin’s natural moisture. It also helps to use a non-drying soap in the shower such as Aveeno Moisturizing Bar, a fragrance-free cleansing bar that contains oatmeal, a natural skin moisturizer. Exfoliating is also a great way to eliminate cracked, flaking skin.
There’s nothing worse than having itchy armpits. My skin can be sensitive and shaving daily (especially during the “bare” months of summer) can really irritate my underarms, causing itchy bumps and ingrown hairs. Sometimes heavily perfumed deodorant can irritate it further. There’s no sense in shaving to look pretty if you have to walk around scratching your pits all day.
Sweet Katie’s skin was drier than usual after her weekend in Las Vegas. The first step was to get her face well moisturized with DERMAdoctor’s Calm, Cool, and Corrected face cream. Me by {Me}zghan’s Luminous Me foundation in light was brushed on to her entire face, evening out the skin tone. The Flawless {Me} concealer in light was then used with the {Me} concealing brush under her eyes and on a couple of small blemishes. The entire base was set with Make Up For Ever HD powder. Katie’s eyes were kept simple and sweet.
Aaron’s skin was first prepped with DERMAdoctor’s Calm, Cool, and Corrected skin moisturizer. Make Up For Ever foundation in #’s 123 and 145 were mixed to create the perfect shade for Aaron. The mixture was applied with a foundation brush all over the face and down the neck to even out his skin tone. After recently battling an illness, we used Me by {Me}zhgan concealer in medium to cancel out the redness around Aaron’s nose. The same concealer was also used under the eyes to cancel out darkness…
